Luc A. De Baere obtained a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree at the University of Wisconsin in Green Bay (USA) in chemistry and waste management.
From 1980 to 1987 he was responsible for the research and development of the dry
anaerobic composting (DRANCO) process, a dry anaerobic process for the digestion of
organic fractions derived from municipal solid waste. From January 1st, 1988, he has been the general manager and subsequently the managing director of Organic Waste Systems.
He has also been responsible for the development of several standard methods for the
determination of the biodegradability and compostability of bioplastics, accepted by ASTM (USA), CEN (Europe) and ISO (global). As a result of his work, OWS has become the world leader in biodegradability and compostability testing.
Luc De Baere is the author and co-author of 50+ publications in the field of anaerobic
digestion and biodegradability measurements.
