ProfileWilliam Cosgarea serves as a Sustainability Specialist at the Javits Center, which has emerged as one of the leading examples of sustainable building in the United States. In his role, he helps to manage the convention center’s robust sustainability program featuring a 6.75-acre green roof that serves as a habitat for 29 bird species, five bat species and thousands of honeybees on Manhattan’s West Side. William also works closely with Cultivated, the venue’s new dining and hospitality team, to develop some of the event industry’s most cutting-edge sustainability projects, including the creation of a food waste prevention program and a one-acre rooftop farm that will soon produce tons of fruits and vegetables each year. As the busiest convention center in the nation, the Javits Center hosts more than 175 large-scale events a year, and William operates as a key liaison with various clients, vendors and research institutions to enhance and study the Javits Center’s remarkable journey toward sustainability. Prior to joining the Javits Center, he served in the Corporate Sustainability Division at MGM Resorts International in Las Vegas, NV. William holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Global Environmental Change and Sustainability from Johns Hopkins University.
