ProfileGeorge Reistad serves as the Food Policy Director for the City of Madison, Wisconsin. In his role at the City of Madison, George focuses on creating and continuing programs and policies that increase access and opportunities within the food system for city residents. His experience covers a diverse range of food policy and program areas including food waste programs research. This includes staffing the Madison Food Policy Council, which makes food policy and programmatic recommendations to the Mayor and Common Council. He also manages two City programs, the Healthy Retail Access Program and the SEED Grants Program, which have distributed more than $850,000 in funding to community organizations and businesses since 2014. George’s work also involves working collaboratively with community partners on a myriad of other food-based initiatives such as the Double Dollars Program to increase SNAP EBT users’ purchasing power, the Madison Public Market, and the Gardens Network Partnership between the City of Madison, Dane County, and non-profit partner Community Groundworks.
