Rocco DiRico, a 40-year veteran of the New York City Department of Sanitation, oversees the Agency’s Support Services Division, which consists of The Bureau of Motor Equipment (BME) and The Bureau of Building Maintenance (BBM). BME’s primary responsibility is the specification, purchase, maintenance/repair, and condemnation/relinquishment (i.e.: cradle to grave) of 7,500 light, medium and heavy duty vehicles over their various life cycles. BBM’s primary responsibility is the repair and maintenance of approximately 200 small, medium and large facilities. Additional BBM responsibilities are the oversight of 555 Petroleum Bulk Storage Tanks as well as adherence to the various Oversight Agencies’ Rules and Regulatory Compliance. Recently, in collaboration with the Mack Corp, DSNY will take delivery of the 1st 72,000 R/L Refuse Truck powered entirely by electrification.
