Profile
Bruce A. Bates is president and chief executive officer of Bates Trucking and Trash Removal. Bruce grew up in the Bates Trucking family business, working alongside his father who started the company in the 1960s. Bruce’s institutional knowledge coupled with his no nonsense approach to business prepared him to take the helm in the early 1990s.
Bruce went on to incorporate the family business and take it from a 5 truck operation to over 250 trucks. Bruce makes complex situations seem simple and has a knack for identifying solutions when there is a problem. His strong fundamental, organizations, financial, acquisition and interpersonal communication skills enable him to maximize and grow the skills of his subordinates.
Today, Bruce oversees the strategic direction of several waste industry companies in addition to Bates Trucking. As part of his portfolio, Bruce serves as managing partner of a landfill, three transfer stations, an over the road long distance hauling company, and three additional refuse and recycling companies. With over 1,000 employees in the Washington Metropolitan area and the states of Virginia and North Carolina, Bruce is one of the most successful minority owners of waste and refuse collection services in the country.
