Tony Bova, a 2020 Grist50 Fixer, is the Co-Founder and CEO of mobius, a public benefit corporation with a mission to create a world where There’s Wonder in Waste. While working on his PhD, Tony and fellow grad student Jeff Beegle saw an opportunity to combine their passions for chemistry, biology, and engineering with entrepreneurship to develop innovative technologies for waste valorization and upcycling. Currently, mobius is developing scalable solutions for waste fractionation into fats, fibers, sugars, phenolics, proteins, and small molecules for use as upcycled ingredients in the chemical, materials, food, agriculture, and CPG industries. Tony holds a PhD in Energy Science and Engineering from the University of Tennessee and a BS in Chemistry from the University of Toledo, and recently was issued his first patent for a biodegradable plastic derived from lignin waste from the pulp and paper industry.Sessions
