As Environmental Specialist within the Sustainable Materials Management Division of the City of Carlsbad, Alyssa contributes to outreach, education, monitoring and inspection related to regulation compliance of solid waste and recycling, including implementing school recycling programs and developing educational video resources for residents and businesses. Alyssa received her Bachelors in Environmental Science and Management from UC Davis, her Master of City Planning from San Diego State University, and her Master of Professional Studies in Renewable Energy and Sustainability from Penn State. During her time as an undergrad student, Alyssa worked as Sustainability Programmer and Sustainability Assistant for UC Davis’s Student Housing and as Zero Waste Intern for the Davis Farmers’ Market, these experiences working to educate the general public and students about sustainability and in particular waste reduction and diversion, planted the seed of passion for sustainable materials management within Alyssa.
