Profile

Spiro Kattan is a Deputy Director with the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY). Spiro graduated from NYC Technical College and went to work for the City of New York. This year, Spiro is celebrating his 38th year with NYC. Spiro is in charge of DSNY's Clean Fuels & Technologies Division. Spiro is responsible for DSNY’s Fleet Sustainability Program. Spiro has experience working with many different types of alternative fuels and environmentally-friendly technologies; which includes Compressed Natural Gas, Ethanol, Biodiesel, Hybrid-electric, Electric Vehicles, Renewable Diesel, Dimethyl Ether, and Hydrogen. His current mission is working to achieve NYC Executive Order #53 of 2020. EO #53 aims to transition NYC’s municipal fleet to all-electric by 2040.
