Mike Ellis has over 30 years of extensive knowledge in fleet management. Mike implements best maintenance practices that enable the City to gain efficiencies and effectiveness in service delivery. Mike's vision is to modernize the fleet and create a sustainable replacement program. As Fleet Manager, Mike oversees all aspects of Fleet Management for the City which includes writing specifications, purchasing, up-fitting, preventative maintenance, and repairs.
At the age of 16, Mike started out as a mechanic in the private sector working for an auto dealer. After high school, he went to a technical college for automotive and diesel studies. Mike has worked on various equipment ranging from heavy duty to exotic cars. In 1988, he started working for the State of Texas. During his 11 years with the State, he became a Fleet Manager in charge of three sites (3) with over 1,300 pieces of equipment.
In 1999, he entered the municipal sector as Fleet Manager for the City of Carrollton, Texas. In 2004, Mike transferred to the City of Denton, Texas as Fleet Superintend. In 2012, Mike retired and started worked as a Fleet Consultant. In 2016 Mike was hired as Fleet Manager for the City of Plano. Mike has directed several City’s that have been recognized as Top 100 Fleets in America and has been honored in the top 20 twice in his career.
