Monica leads a diverse portfolio of sustainability evaluation and implementation projects for professional leagues, stadiums, and arenas as a member of the WM Sustainability Advisory Services team. With almost a decade of experience in sustainability programming, operations, and engagement, Monica helps major sports organizations measure, manage, and create buy-in to reduce their environmental impacts.
Her recent experience includes comprehensive sustainability assessments and GHG inventories for the NBA, MetLife Stadium, the TSC NYC Marathon, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Association of Volleyball Professionals; material minimization initiatives and diversion operations planning with Climate Pledge Arena and the PGA TOUR; and purpose-driven sponsorship design, sustainability certifications, stakeholder engagement campaigns, and training development for venues and events across the country.
Prior to working for WM, Monica led collegiate sustainability programs focused on procurement, materials management, health and wellness, transportation, and community engagement. She worked closely with Division I athletic programs to implement sustainability initiatives, set short- and long-term goals, and build and sell new sponsorship categories meant to both leverage and drive sustainability program success. In addition, Monica led the development of the Fan Engagement for Sustainable Behavior Change Playbook in partnership with the Green Sports Alliance.
Monica received an MBA from the University of Colorado with a focus on social responsibility and supply chain management. Originally from Southern California, she holds a BA in Geography and Environmental Studies from UCLA.
