Wilbert Yang is an Environmental Engineer with nearly 30 years of experience in the environmental and waste management field. His career includes being a regulator, municipal engineer and consultant. From an organics management perspective, his experience can be summarized in the following manner:
• As a regulator, he developed regulations and guidelines for organic waste processing facilities, issued permits and conducted environmental impact assessments (typically to deal with leachate and odor issues).
• As a municipal engineer, he assessed and developed organic waste diversion programs for cities in the Metro Vancouver area.
• As a consultant, he works with cities across North America developing and implementing solid waste master plans, organic waste programs and benchmarking solid waste management systems.
Wilbert loves solid waste planning because it influences the way we live, hopefully for the better. He also recognizes that, “in the world of solid waste management, the best systems are the ones that suit the community’s values and ultimately something that their members would use”.
