Profile
Elaine Fiore is an environmental educator who piloted a share table initiative to reduce food waste in school cafeterias for Broward County Public Schools, the sixth largest school district in the nation, which led to Food and Nutrition Services adopting a share table policy and procedure for the district. She has spoken to an array of audiences at conferences, webinars and workshops to raise awareness and lead others to begin programs. Partnerships with government agencies, municipalities, nonprofits and the private sector have been key to the success of the program. After learning about California's Food Waste Prevention Week 2018, Elaine rallied up a network of state leaders to spearhead Florida Food Waste Prevention Week 2021. Due to the success of the event, cities, states and organizations from across the country joined Food Waste Prevention Week 2022. A shared mission to raise awareness and inspire behavior change to reduce food waste, and minimize environmental, social and financial impacts lead to the creation of a nationwide planning team to host the April 10-16, 2023 event.
