Ibn Akbar Salaam is the Director of Federal Legislative Affairs for Waste Management, Inc (WM). Ibn is responsible for developing and advocating WM’s public policy position in tax, sustainability, transportation, and diversity, equity and inclusion. Ibn also manages WM’s political engagement and
relationships with Members of Congress, industry coalitions, and other public policy organizations.
Prior to joining WM, Ibn served as Director of Government Affairs & FLIRPAC for FLIR Systems (FLIR) from 2019-2021.
During his time at FLIR, Ibn served as a liaison to Congress and led strategic internal and external stakeholder engagement programs for FLIR’s Political Action Committee (PAC). Before his time at FLIR, Ibn worked as Manager of PAC & Political Affairs in the Office of Public Policy for General Motors
Company (GM) from 2016-2019. Ibn managed day-to-day operations for GM’s state and federal PAC and under his leadership, GM’s PAC eclipsed $2.1 million which placed GM within the top-10 of corporate PACs in 2017. Ibn’s political career started as a fundraising consultant at Angerholzer Broz Consulting (ABC) from 2013-2016. Ibn served as Assistant Vice President and managed the fundraising portfolios for over ten Democratic Congressional Members, association PACs and non-profit organizations like the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF). Ibn also spent time on Capitol Hill where he worked as a Congressional aide in the Office of Representative Steve Cohen (TN-09).
Ibn holds a Master of Business Administration from George Mason University’s School of Business and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Hampden-Sydney College. Ibn serves as a board member of the Washington Government Relations Group Foundation (WGRGF). He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The youngest of three children, Ibn was born in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in Midlothian, VA. He currently lives in Hyattsville, MD.
