Shannon has been actively involved with the recycling and infrastructure industry for over 15 years. She is currently the Director of Recycling & Environmental Policy at WM, the largest recycler in North America. In this role, she provides guidance on legislation and regulations impacting WM’s recycling operations and works with internal stakeholders to build consensus on WM policy positions. She also provides direction to WM’s government affairs team and recycling managers regarding policy trends. Her career began at the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), an organization of public and private sector professionals committed to advancing from solid waste management to resource management. At SWANA, she advanced to the position of Manager of Government Affairs where she was responsible for SWANA’s response to legislative and regulatory actions. Shannon also worked as the Director of State Government Affairs at the Plastics Industry Association, where she oversaw the association’s California advocacy efforts including responding to extended producer responsibility and recycled content legislation. Shannon participates in numerous recycling and composting organizations. She is currently on the board of AMERIPEN and ISRI. She has a B.S. in Biology from George Mason University.Sessions
